THE STATUSTUNE POSTING GUIDE

How to prepare a video
for WhatsApp Status.

A practical workflow for making a clean MP4, keeping your framing, and sharing clips in the right order.

1. Start with the original camera video

Choose the original file from your camera or gallery. Avoid copies downloaded from social media or repeatedly forwarded in chats: detail already removed by compression cannot be recovered by changing export settings. For predictable colors, use an SDR video; automatic HDR tone mapping is not supported.

2. Pick a quality preset and framing

Start with Balanced for a smaller MP4 at up to 720p. More detail exports up to 1080p with a larger file. These are preparation presets, not official WhatsApp specifications. StatusTune does not upscale smaller originals.

Original keeps the whole frame. Portrait fit adds black bars to preserve the picture in a vertical frame. Portrait center crop fills the vertical frame by removing edges, so check that your subject is still visible.

3. Trim and split into manageable clips

Set the start and end times in seconds. Choose 30-second or 60-second clips, or a single clip up to 60 seconds. The app accepts files up to 200 MB and processes up to five selected minutes per export. Actual WhatsApp clip limits can vary by version; choose shorter clips if your app truncates them.

4. Prepare, preview and save

Keep the tab open while StatusTune encodes your video locally. Preview each generated MP4 before saving. On iPhone, you may need to open the downloaded video in Files and save it to Photos. Encoding can take longer on phones and older devices.

5. Add the clips to your status

Open WhatsApp, go to Updates and choose Add status. Select the exported clips in numerical order. Check the posted result on your phone: WhatsApp can compress the export again, and no web tool can guarantee a lossless status.

Why pre-compression is not a guaranteed fix

Resize and export controls let you prepare a predictable input. They do not override WhatsApp’s upload pipeline. WhatsApp’s HD media guidance explains the distinction between media quality options and status availability.
